Home Wedding Anthem Cares!

Sanusi painting at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa"I was born with art in my blood!" That's the unequivocal message from Sanusi Yusuf Olatunji  (29) , better known as the "Union Building Artist".

"I just love it. It makes me happy. It is my passion. Growing up, I used to play with sand and make designs out of it. We would make boats out of paper and play with them on rainy days. Even without knowing, we participated in creative art activities," says Sanusi who studied General Art at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Nigeria.

There's something about Sanusi that exhibits his great appreciation of nature, people and life. Perhaps it is what attracted the American Embassy to th extend that they asked him to to exhibit there earlier this year. Perhaps it could be something contained in the many locals and tourists that he draws by simply doing that which he loves - creating art!

Even during the interview with Sanusi, people gather. A photographer snaps away. Another joins in and another... we pause. "I am used to it," he giggles. "It happens all the time," continues the well articulated and soft spoken Sanusi.

"His eyes are better than my camera! I love his art! It has an essence of the 15th and 16th century. His detail is perfect. Truly incredible," says a local with a professional camera fitted with an incredibly long lens. Constant crowds gathering around his art affirmed the sentiments around his indisputable talent and incredible artwork.

"Art is in many ways. Some people express art through singing. I express art through painting. Art is a gift from God!" continues Sanusi.

His message to aspiring artists is that they should be encouraged and not discouraged. He is most willing to add to your wedding celebrations by drawing/painting your guests and/or making portraits as the ideal gifts!
