Home News and events Music guru Mapumba reveals the essence of love and music to Wedding Anthem

Mapumba Photo by Astrid Kille of Tiger Media. www.astridkille.co.za“True love does exist. Its purpose is empowering and supporting, to make you a better person. Not to make you an addict or give you conditions that might kill you. If someone loves you, they will look to find the best in you and help you realize it! True love came to me through my son Lupemba. My love for him wants me to become a better man, a better professional, a better musician and most of all a responsible human being,” says music legend, Mapumba Tshilombo.

Many may recognise him as M-NET’s Studio 53 former presenter or heard his music in films such as Paradise Stop. Apart from South Africa and the African continent at large, Mapumba has performed in North America (US, Canada and Puerto Rico) and in Europe (Switzerland). His music has been featured on CD compilations such as the international Putumayos African Dreamland and African Party.

“My opinion of love is that it is that thing in us that asks us to be selfless. The thing in us that wants us to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes. The thing that makes us realize it will be a very dull world if we were alone,” continues the much acclaimed singer/songwriter, live performer and music producer.

According to Mapumba, he is one of those artists that is known and somehow not known. “There are many hints of my work everywhere yet one can’t pin point major points of reference. When I perform people recognize my voice from TV commercials, or realize they have my album, or even come and tell me they heard a song of mine on a major label compilation,” elaborates Mapumba who prefers to classify his music as Afro-world music.

For more information on his two albums, please go to his website, iTunes and/or many other online distributors. Also be on the lookout for his current project called “Hadithi Roots” which is Swahili and English for root stories. “It’s an album with a blend of folk, Congo zouk, reggae and a tint of soft rock. It is embedded on love and words of encouragement through these tough times. Sharing is an even bigger element. By sharing, I mean sharing stories, laughter, love and our world with others. It addresses sharing the similarities that bring us all closer,” says Mapumba.

In conclusion, it is clear that the predominant underlying theme in his lyrics – whether in English, French, Swahili, and Chiluba (DR Congo dialect) – borders around social enrichment and love. He hopes that his music will feature in the readers’ collections as music is meant to be heard. “As for Wedding Anthem, my message to you is that you keep inspiring us with moments,” concludes Mapumba.
