Sam DIn the quite still moments when there seems to be nothing happening, there’s a pulse. It reminds us that no matter how we feel, we are alive. The thump inside overlooks the moments of night, to awaken our souls to the awareness that day is about to break.

Something inside, that refuses to give up no matter how much it is counted out, alerts us that we are. There is strength within each being that is stored up for cold days. They are not curses, but a vital part of our journeys.

Even when we don’t understand, the scrapes on our feet and eyes that see them alert us that rather than falling, our knees are being fortified. There is a pulse. The still, quiet voice within continues to steer us on: Get up, go for it!

My interview with Sam Dickinson, a British singer and song writer drew me to how he acknowledges the moments of stillness, but did not stay there. He wrote album one and did not stop there. Singers write and sing. They go on, no matter what goes on around and within them. They were made for the stage, made to sing and perform not just in their country of birth, but way beyond. Album two is coming…

Dearest Wedding Anthem readers from all over the world, here’s Sam Dickinson!

In one sentence, who are you?
I am a British soul singer songwriter, it's as simple as that!

Briefly, please tell our readers a little bit about you…
I released my debut album in 2013, I'm currently writing my second album, all released independently. That meant that I organized and paid for every aspect of the album's release. It's hard work, but it's also fun. I was really surprised when the album received airplay on UK's biggest radio station and one of New York's too! Perhaps, I should have arranged interviews in South Africa. I have been there twice in the past year! However, I was too excited about seeing the Big 5 [lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard] and tasting the wine so I hope I'm forgiven, haha!

Can you please tell your fans what you have been up to and/or what's next?
Well, I took some time off over the past year whilst going through anxiety and depression. I went to Cape Town in order to try and figure out what I wanted to do, to face the issues I was going through, somewhere far away from home, somewhere I could relax. It made me realize I love music and I started writing again whilst in Cape Town. I'm busy writing the next album, which I'm wanting to have a different kind of soul vibe to it than the last. I can't wait to tour again and play LIVE more often. Perhaps we should encourage some booking agents in South Africa to fly me over? That'd be huge fun [cough cough, Cape Town Jazz Festival, cough, cough].

How do you find a balance between what you do and who you are?
That's a difficult question. My music is autobiographical, I've been hopeless where love has been concerned in the past so I write about that, but I also write about personal strength and resilience. There has to be some link between the two in order to be a credible artist I think, otherwise, how are people going to believe what you're saying?

We celebrate love. Do you think true love exists? If so, Who/what/where is it?
True love exists. It holds no boundaries. The sooner people realize this, the sooner we'll have a happy world.

Do you think there is still a place for marriage in this day-and-age?
For people who believe in marriage and think it's the epitome of love, then of course there is.

Do you have a message to Wedding Anthem?
Yes! I have a song called Du é Fin on my Soundcloud page! It's the perfect wedding song. I'd love to come and sing it for you!

We will definitely be clicking along to listen and do hope to someday hear you sing it LIVE. Anything else on your mind?
A huge thank you for interviewing me. South Africa, I'll see you soon!
